By car
From Florence: Take the “Firenze-Pisa-Livorno” highway (FI-PI-LI) direction Pisa. Exit at “Empoli Ovest” and then take SS429 or SR429 direction Siena until it reaches Certaldo.
From Siena: Take the “Firenze-Siena” highway direction “Firenze” and then exit at “Poggibonsi”. Then take SS429 or SR429 in direction “Empoli” until it reaches Certaldo.
From Pisa: Take the “Firenze-Pisa-Livorno” highway (FI-PI-LI) direction Florence. Exit at “Empoli Ovest” and then take SS429 or SR429 direction Siena until it reaches Certaldo.
To get to Certaldo from Rome, Milan, Naples or Bologna: Turn off the A1 highway at the “Firenze Signa” Exit, then take the “Firenze-Pisa-Livorno highway (FI-PI-LI) direction Pisa. Exit at“Empoli Ovest” and take SS429 or SR429 direction Siena until it reaches Certaldo.
By train
Certaldo is on the “Firenze – Empoli – Siena” railway.
From Florence: “Firenze – Siena” railway, direction Siena. Get off at the Certaldo train station.
From Siena: “Firenze – Siena” railway, direction Firenze. Get off at the Certaldo train station.
From Pisa: “Firenze – Pisa” railway, direction Empoli or Firenze. Get off the train at the Empoli train station and take a connecting train to Certaldo.
By plane
From Florence airport (www.aeroporto.firenze.it) (40 km):
● Rent a car.
● Book a transfer.
● Take the tramway (www.gestramvia.com) to the main Florence train station (Firenze Santa Maria Novella) and from there a train to Certaldo.
From Pisa airport (www.pisa-airport.com) (50 km):
● Rent a car.
● Book a transfer.
● Take the Pisamover (www.pisa-mover.com) to the main Pisa train station (Pisa Centrale) and from there a train to Certaldo.
HOW TO GET TO THE MEDIEVAL VILLAGE
The medieval village is located in the center of Certaldo and has a vertical drop of 50 meters from the town.
You can reach the medieval hamlet on foot, by funicular or by car.
ATTENTION!
It is not possible to access the medieval village with car. In the village there is a LTZ (Limited Traffic Zone). Access is allowed only to residents, operators and guests of the accommodation facilities with the specific permit.

From Piazza Boccaccio you can reach Certaldo Alto through
– Via del Castello
– Vicolo Signorini
– Via Costa Alberti
– Via Costa Vecchia
By funicular
Visitors can park in the lower part of the town and go to Certaldo Alto by the funicular.
In the lower part, the funicular station is located in Piazza Boccaccio 37, while in the upper part it is situated near Porta Aberti (the Alberti Gate)
The funicular operates every 15 minutes.

Car parks near the medieval village
1- Car Park “Certaldo Alto”
It is the closest parking area to the hamlet and has about 40 parking places. Cost is currently 0,50 €/hour.
Please, be careful not to enter the Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL)!
1- Car Park “Piazza Boccaccio”
Piazza Boccaccio is the main square in Certaldo Basso, the lower part of the city: this is the starting point of the funicular and of the pedestrian roads that reach the medieval village.
It is a paid parking with about 60 places.

Paid parking places are also along the streets near the square: Via Trento, Via Mazzini, Via Trieste. You can park in the blue lines, and then pay at the nearby totems.
3- Car Park “Stazione FS”
It is located at the train station, about 200 meters from Piazza Boccaccio which can be easily reached by walking along the pedestrian street Via 2 Giugno.
It is a paid parking with about 100 places.

4- Car Park “Via XXVI Luglio”
It is about 400 meters from Piazza Boccaccio. From this car park it is possible to take the underground passage of the train station and reach Piazza Masini; from here you can walk along the pedestrian street Via 2 Giugno to arrive in Piazza Boccaccio.
It is a free parking with about 50 places.

5- Car Park “Via Leonardo da Vinci”
It is located very close to Via XXVI Luglio. From this car park it is possible to take the underground passage of the train station and reach Piazza Masini; from here you can walk along the pedestrian street Via 2 Giugno to arrive in Piazza Boccaccio.
It is a free parking with about 150 places.

Camper Parking Area
The parking area (4 stalls) is located in Piazza Macelli, at the foot of Certaldo Alto, close to the city center.
It’s always accessible, free, partially shaded, illuminated, with water and waste facilities.
It is about 600 meters from Piazza Boccaccio. Once parked, walk through Via Roma to get to Piazza Boccaccio and take the funicular.
Tourist bus stop
A brief stop for passenger descent/ascent is allowed in Certaldo Basso (lower city) at the suburban bus stop located in the public gardens of Piazza Giulio Masini (43°32’47.3″N 11°02’19.5″E, not at the train station): coming from Viale Giacomo Matteotti (heading south), turn right on Via Trieste (at Panificio Catullo and ACI Agency), and then continue on to the right (up to a public toilet). Vertical traffic signs are present on site.
From there you reach Piazza Boccaccio (5 minute-walk) where the funicular station is, or you can walk up the pedestrian streets Costa Vecchia, Vicolo Signorini or Via del Castello (10-15 more minutes, with an altitude difference of 40 meters).
The free parking for the bus is located in Certaldo Basso (lower city) along Viale Fabiani (heading south), in front of the skating rink.
