THE GATES
Historically, Certaldo was accessed exclusively by one of its only three gates: the Alberti, the Sun or the Rivellino Gate.
From the south, on the “via del Castello” lies the Sun Gate, named for the fact that the gate faces the sun almost the entire day; the Alberti Gate is located in North-West section of the walls, named after the noble family who ruled Certaldo during the 12thC; and the Rivellino Gate built the South-East section of walls stands atop a 16thC small fortification from which visitors can enjoy the beautiful views over to San Gimignano.
